The 10 famous villages of the Middle Mosel, running N → S, are Erden, Ürzig, Zeltingen, Wehlen, Graach, Bernkastel-Kues, Brauneberg, Piesport, Trittenheim and Leiwen. In the classification key, VDP.GL is VDP.Grosse Lage — grand cru — and VDP.EL is VDP.Erste Lage, 1er cru; all Einzellagen in this table are VDP.GL unless marked otherwise.

Pünderich — Lower Mosel, further north still

Marienburg

Marienburg is a VDP.GL of Pünderich, which lies on the Lower Mosel, even further north. It runs to 17,93 ha at 98-198m ü. N. N., faces S-SSO on a 50-80% slope, and its soil is Grauer, blauer und roter Schiefer, verwittert. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Clemens Busch, who is biodynamic and colour-codes by slate.

Nonnengarten

Nonnengarten — the Pündericher Nonnengarten of the VDP register — is a VDP.EL of 7,25 ha at 98-190m ü. N. N., facing SO on a 50-70% slope, on Rotschiefer mit Tonanteil. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Clemens Busch, who is biodynamic and colour-codes by slate.

Erden

Treppchen

Treppchen is a VDP.GL of Erden on red and blue slate — Rotschiefer mit Tonanteil, blauer Schiefer — at 110–260 m a.s.l., or 110-260m ü. N. N., facing SSW on a 50–80% slope. It runs to 42,00 ha, is planted to Riesling, and is worked by Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, Dr. Loosen and S. A. Prüm.

Prälat

Prälat is a VDP.GL of Erden on red slate — Roter Schiefer mit Tonanteil — facing pure south, the warmest microclimate of the village, giving mango, passion fruit and bitter almond. It is only 1,63 ha at 110-220m ü. N. N. on a 210% slope, is planted to Riesling, and is worked by Dr. Loosen.

Ürzig

Würzgarten

Würzgarten is a VDP.GL of Ürzig on red iron-rich slate — Roter Vulkan- und Schieferboden — giving spice and opulent fruit. It runs to 55,00 ha at 110-220m ü. N. N., faces SO-S on a 20-80% slope, is planted to Riesling, and is worked by Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, Dr. Loosen, Christoffel and Markus Molitor.

Zeltingen

Zeltinger Sonnenuhr

The Zeltinger Sonnenuhr is a VDP.GL of Zeltingen, 20,74 ha at 100-250m ü. N. N., facing SSW-S on a 65-75% slope, on Steiniger, verwitterter Devonschiefer. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Van Volxem, Joh. Jos. Prüm, Selbach-Oster and Markus Molitor.

Schlossberg & Himmelreich (Zeltingen)

Alongside Sonnenuhr, Zeltingen's famous Einzellagen are Schlossberg and Himmelreich, worked by Joh. Jos. Prüm, Selbach-Oster and Markus Molitor.

Wehlen

Wehlener Sonnenuhr

The Wehlener Sonnenuhr is a VDP.GL of Wehlen on grey and blue Devonian slate — Grau-blauer Devonschiefer — rising to 70° and facing SSW. It runs to 46,00 ha at 110-320m ü. N. N., facing SSW-S on a 65-70% slope, and is planted to Riesling. It is worked by Joh. Jos. Prüm, Dr. Loosen, Markus Molitor, Selbach-Oster, S.A. Prüm, Van Volxem, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, Willi Schaefer, Schloss Lieser - Thomas Haag and Geheimrat J.Wegeler - Gutshaus Mosel.

Graach

Domprobst

Domprobst is a VDP.GL of Graach, one of the village's three famous Einzellagen with Himmelreich and Josephshöfer, the last a Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt monopole. It runs to 18,66 ha at 110-260m ü. N. N., faces SW/S-SW on a 45-75% slope, on Grauschiefer und Blauschiefer. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, Dr. Loosen, S. A. Prüm and Willi Schaefer.

Josephshöfer

Josephshöfer is a VDP.GL of Graach and a monopole of Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt. It runs to 5,20 ha at 110-165m ü. N. N., faces SSW on a 44% slope, on Blau- und Grauschiefer, and is planted to Riesling.

Graacher Himmelreich

The Graacher Himmelreich is the third of Graach's famous Einzellagen, with Domprobst and the Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt monopole Josephshöfer. Its growers include Joh. Jos. Prüm, Dr. Loosen, Willi Schaefer, Selbach-Oster, Markus Molitor and S.A. Prüm.

Bernkastel-Kues

Doctor

Doctor is a VDP.GL of Bernkastel-Kues and the most expensive vineyard in Germany. It is 3,22 ha at 130-190m ü. N. N., faces SSW on a 70% slope, on Blau- und Grauschiefer. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Schloss Lieser - Thomas Haag, Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch, Erben Thanisch, and Geheimrat J.Wegeler - Gutshaus Mosel.

Graben

Graben is a VDP.GL of Bernkastel-Kues, named in the book alongside Lay, Johannisbrünnchen and Badstube. It is 11,05 ha at 125-225m ü. N. N., faces SSW on a 60% slope, on Blauschiefer. It is planted to Riesling and worked by S. A. Prüm, Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch, Erben Thanisch, and Geheimrat J.Wegeler - Gutshaus Mosel.

Lay

Lay is a VDP.GL of Bernkastel-Kues, named with Graben and Johannisbrünnchen. It is 9,60 ha at 110-160m ü. N. N., faces SSW on a 50-70% slope, on Blauschiefer mit Tonanteil. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Dr. Loosen, Joh. Jos. Prüm, S. A. Prüm, Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch, Erben Thanisch, and Geheimrat J.Wegeler - Gutshaus Mosel.

Johannisbrünnchen

Johannisbrünnchen is a VDP.GL of Bernkastel-Kues, 13,76 ha at 150-325m ü. N. N., facing W-SW on a 40-50% slope, on Blau- und Grauschiefer. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Dr. Loosen and Joh. Jos. Prüm.

Badstube

In 2025 the Grosslage Badstube was deleted, and a new Einzellage Badstube now covers the former Brathöfchen and Matheisbildchen, while Doctor, Graben and Lay were reassigned to the Grosslage Münzlay. Badstube is a VDP.GL of Bernkastel, 29,00 ha at 110-250m ü. N. N., facing SW-S on a 40-65% slope, on Grau-blauer Devonschiefer. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Geheimrat J.Wegeler - Gutshaus Mosel, Joh. Jos. Prüm, S. A. Prüm, and Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch, Erben Thanisch.

Brauneberg

Juffer

Juffer is a VDP.GL of Brauneberg, 35,00 ha at 110-210m ü. N. N., facing S on a 60-80% slope, on Grauer und blauer Devonschiefer mit Eiseneinschlüssen. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Fritz Haag, whose wines are made by Oliver Haag and run 60–70% dry, by Schloss Lieser of Thomas Haag, by Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, by Willi Haag, and by Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch, Erben Thanisch.

Juffer-Sonnenuhr

Juffer-Sonnenuhr is a VDP.GL of Brauneberg on south-east-facing slate, well-watered, giving richly refined Rieslings. It is 10,60 ha at 110-185m ü. N. N., facing SSO-S-SSW on a 70-85% slope, and is planted to Riesling. It is worked by Fritz Haag, Willi Haag, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, Schloss Lieser - Thomas Haag, and Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch, Erben Thanisch.

Juffer Sonnenuhr im Falkenberg

Juffer Sonnenuhr im Falkenberg is a VDP.GL of Brauneberg of only 0,81 ha, on Grauer und blauer Devonschiefer mit Eiseneinschlüssen, planted to Riesling and worked by Fritz Haag.

Wintrich

Ohligsberg

Ohligsberg is a VDP.GL of Wintrich on grey-blue slate with quartzite, rocks and gravel — Graublauer, fester Schieferverwitterungsboden. It is 7,00 ha at 120-200m ü. N. N., facing W-SW on a 40-80% slope, planted to Riesling, and worked by Reinhold Haart, listed in the VDP register as Haart.

Piesport

Goldtröpfchen

Goldtröpfchen is a VDP.GL shared between Neumagen-Dhron and Piesport, the largest of the village's sites at 69,00 ha, at 120-200m ü. N. N., facing SSW-S-SO on a 40-90% slope, on Grauer Devonschiefer. It is planted to Riesling and worked by NIK WEIS - St. Urbans-Hof, Josef Milz, Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken, Willi Haag, Haart, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, Schloss Lieser - Thomas Haag, Stiftungsweingut Vereinigte Hospitien, Grans-Fassian, A.J. Adam and Keller.

Domherr

Domherr is a VDP.GL of Piesport, named in the book with Goldtröpfchen. It is 4,33 ha at 110-160m ü. N. N., facing S-SO on a 30-70% slope, on Tiefgründiger Devonschiefer mit Tonanteil. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Haart, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt and Stiftungsweingut Vereinigte Hospitien.

Kreuzwingert

Kreuzwingert is a VDP.GL of Piesport and a monopole of Reinhold Haart, on slate and clay — Tiefgründiger Devonschiefer mit hohem Tonanteil. At 0,09 ha it is tiny, sitting at 150-200m ü. N. N., facing S on a 50-60% slope, and is planted to Riesling.

Schubertslay

Schubertslay is a VDP.GL of Piesport, named in the book with Grafenberg. It is 0,56 ha at 150-190m ü. N. N., facing S-SW on a 55-65% slope, on Schiefer mit Tonanteil. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Stiftungsweingut Vereinigte Hospitien and Keller.

Grafenberg

Grafenberg is a VDP.GL shared between Piesport and Neumagen-Dhron, named in the book with Schubertslay. It is 7,00 ha at 120-200m ü. N. N., facing S-SO on a 50-75% slope, on Roter Devonschiefer. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Haart and Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt.

Trittenheim

Apotheke

Apotheke is a VDP.GL of Trittenheim on blue slate — Grauer und blauer Devonschiefer — at the narrowest switchback, with the most vertiginous walls. It runs to 70,00 ha at 150-200m ü. N. N., faces SW on a 40-70% slope, is planted to Riesling, and is worked by Ansgar Clüsserath, Grans-Fassian, Milz and Josef Milz.

Altärchen

Altärchen is named in the book between Apotheke and the two Milz alleinbesitz sites, Leiterchen and Felsenkopf; the village's growers are Ansgar Clüsserath, Grans-Fassian and Milz.

Leiterchen

Leiterchen is a VDP.GL of Trittenheim and a Milz alleinbesitz. It is 0,53 ha at 120-220m ü. N. N., facing SW on a 70% slope, on Grauer und blauer Devonschiefer, and is planted to Riesling.

Felsenkopf

Felsenkopf is a VDP.GL of Trittenheim and likewise a Milz alleinbesitz. It is 0,48 ha at 120-180m ü. N. N., facing SW on a 60% slope, on Grauer und blauer Devonschiefer, planted to Riesling and worked by Josef Milz.

Leiwen

Laurentiuslay

Laurentiuslay is a VDP.GL of Leiwen, sleeker and more mineral than Trittenheim's richer style. It runs to 34,00 ha at 130-180m ü. N. N., faces SSW on a 40-80% slope, on Grauer Devonschiefer. It is planted to Riesling and worked by Carl Loewen, Josef Milz, NIK WEIS - St. Urbans-Hof and Grans-Fassian.

Paulinshofberg

Paulinshofberg is a VDP.GL of Kesten, 7,27 ha, at 119-208m ü. N. N., facing SSO, on Blauer Schiefer und verwitterter Tonschiefer. It is planted to Riesling. It is worked by Fritz Haag.

Kätzchen

Kätzchen is a VDP.GL of Monzel, 1,76 ha. It is planted to Riesling. It is worked by Fritz Haag.

Försterlay

Försterlay is a VDP.GL of Lösnich, 10,34 ha, at 110-260m ü. N. N., facing n.a., on a 10-60% slope, on Steiniger, verwitterter Tonschiefer. It is planted to Riesling. It is worked by Dr. Loosen.

Rosenberg

Rosenberg is a VDP.GL of Kinheim, 48,00 ha, at n.a.m ü. N. N., facing SO, on Schiefer. It is planted to Riesling. It is worked by Dr. Loosen.

Layet

Layet is a VDP.GL of Mehring, 2,51 ha, at 140-180m ü. N. N., facing S, on a 60-75% slope, on Schiefer. It is planted to Riesling. It is worked by Van Volxem and NIK WEIS - St. Urbans-Hof.

The three Sonnenuhr sundial vineyards

The three Sonnenuhr sundial vineyards of the Mosel are the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr and the Juffer-Sonnenuhr of Brauneberg. The sundials were constructed on steep vineyard sites as worker timepieces.

VDP.GL is not the statutory Grosslage

VDP.GL is not the same thing as a statutory Grosslage: the VDP classifies Badstube as VDP.GL under its own system.
