Dürnstein carries more weight on the palate than the villages to its west. At Kellerberg the rock is crystalline gneiss with slate.

Kellerberg is home to one of the oldest parcels, Schmidl's Küss den Pfennig. Its soils are sandy loess over crystalline gneiss and slate. Its producers are Domäne Wachau, Knoll and F.X. Pichler, for GV and Riesling.
